Festive shopping usually happens in a hurry, which is how a beautiful outfit ends up being worn once. These are the questions worth asking before you buy.
Fabric decides the day
Georgette and crepe fall well and travel well. Raw silk photographs beautifully but creases if you are sitting for hours. Cotton silk is the sensible middle for a daytime function in Punjab heat. If the event runs from morning into the night, pick the fabric for the longest part of it.
Colour, honestly
- Deep jewel tones -- emerald, wine, navy -- photograph well under warm indoor lights.
- Pastels look best in daylight and can wash out in the evening.
- If you already own heavy gold jewellery, keep the outfit quieter.
Buy for the second wearing, not the first. If you cannot picture it, buy something else.
Fit and alteration
Leave two days for alteration. Sleeve length and the waist seam are the two places where a small change makes the biggest difference, and both are quick jobs. Order early enough that your tailor is not the reason you are late.
